jCal privacy policy

Last updated 3 October 2026

jCal is a private, self-hosted family calendar application. It is operated by a single household for its own use and is not offered to the public. This policy explains what the application does with data from the Google Accounts connected to it.

What data jCal accesses

When a Google Account is connected, jCal accesses, with that account holder's consent:

How the data is used

The data is used only to show those calendars in the application and to create, change and delete events at the user's request. It is not used for advertising, profiling, analytics or training machine-learning models.

Where the data is stored

jCal runs on hardware owned by the household. Calendar data and the access credentials issued by Google are stored on that machine, and the credentials are encrypted. The application is reachable only from the household's own private network. No data is sent to any third party, and nothing is sold, rented or shared.

Limited use

jCal's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Retention and deletion

Data is kept while an account is connected. Disconnecting an account in the application deletes its stored credentials and the cached copies of its events. Access can also be withdrawn at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions, which stops all further access immediately.

Children

jCal is not directed at children and no accounts belonging to children are connected to it.

Changes

If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted on this page with a new date.
